An acceptable use policy (AUP) is a policy outlining how a school or district expects its educators to use and behave with technology. It is similar to a terms of service document and defines what is acceptable from users of hardware and information systems such as applicable networks and the Internet.
Many schools outline acceptable and unacceptable behavior in their school policies. It defines positive goals for incorporating technology into everyday classrooms and prohibits certain behaviors. An AUP is the first step to helping educators create a creative and safe environment for their students to use technology while in the classroom. A good idea is to always revisit the AUP in order to fully understand what you can and cannot do while using technology to enhance your lessons.
Parents and students can also review the AUP to have a full understanding as to why teachers allow certain things and not others.
